One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is NOT everybody’s book and no review can do justice to this magnificent work. I’m sure many will fail to finish it. This is a book where you have to read each page immersing yourself in the imagery. You would have to use every bit of your mental ability just to understand what is happening making this a wrong book for those who read for relaxation or entertainment. Another aspect that can seem difficult is to keep track of the characters mainly because they are all named the same (Family tree in the beginning came very handy). The magical realism style of the book is at its best.
The most magical book from the winner 1982 Nobel Prize for literature.
Recommended, but never for a casual read.
